MS, as it usually called results from
damage to the myelin sheaths surrounding
the nerve fibers of the central nervous
system. The Cause of this is not known, it
may be a genetic disorder, or caused by a
virus. About one person in every 2,000 is
affected, with a higher proportion of women
It may began as tingling, numbness or
weakness affecting an arm or leg or one side
of the body Sometimes symptoms include
double vision, or blurring of the sight. The
attack may happen only once and never
recur but in most cases it runs a course of
relapses and remissions over many years.
Weakness,difficulty in walking, slurred
speech and loss of bladder control are some
of the attendant problems.
The Chinese Medicine diagnosis is a general
weakness of the whole body, especially the
kidneys, which causes the central nervous
system to malfunction and results in wastage
of the muscles. Acupuncture can be used to
improve the circulation, stimulate the
nevous system and help the muscles. Herbs
will deal with kidney and stomach
weakness, revitalizing them to stop
deterioration When the kidneys are weak,
they cannot process the nutrients in the
body, and the central nervous system is
starved. Medicine will tonify the kidneys
and spleen.
MS is serious problem, treatment should
begin as soon as lt ls diagnosed. The earlier
it is caught, the better the prognosis. The
problems associated with the complaint-
kidney and bladder infections and blurred
vision, etc. - respond well to Chinese
Medicine treatment and the progress of the
MS itself can be controlled Therapy is
lone-term, but it is one of the conditions
where Chinese Medicine has had much more
success than Western medicine.
Doreen B has been diagnosed for MS. Five
years ago,"At first,I suspected I had a brain
tumor, as had lost vision in one eye, I had no
balance and I had attacks when I couldn't
move at all, so the knowledge that I had MS
actually came as a relief." as she remembers.
Doreen began treatments in our clinic two
years ago. "most amazingly,two months
after, I started to get vision back in my eye.
All I could see was dark and light to begin
with, then slowly it cleared and I saw
colours again. My vision is not perfect yet,
but I can see reasonably well. I feel so much
better. My depression has gone, my balance
is back, I can climb up three flights of stairs
unaided, whereas before I hardly walk. I am
very lucky in that I have the most marvellous
support from my orthodox consultants and
neurologist, and they both know I have
Chinese acupuncture and both urge me to go
on with it, because they say it is doing me so
much good, I still have a bowel retention
problem, but I have started Chinese herbs, a
mixture of herbs which I have to prepare at
home and drink each day. I had more energy,
the pain lessened, and my urine infections
cleared up almost completely."
My general recommendation to all MS
patients in this clinic is to follow the four
points of the natural healing program which
include:
1) Herbal remedics - e.g. astragali, dong
quai, ginseng, alfalfa, etc.
2) A proper diet-e.g. gluten-free diet.
3) Supplementary vitamins and use of
coenzyme Q10 and primrose oil.
4) Acupuncture.
